Red Hat intros JBoss Fuse Service Works 6 for service integration

Red Hat has officially launched its JBoss Fuse Service Works 6 service development and integration platform, promising easier integration between disparate enterprise applications, including cloud-based services.

Available for download now, JBoss Fuse Service Works 6 is the next generation of Red Hat’s JBoss service-oriented architecture (SOA) middleware platform. A beta release of the platform – which integrates applications and orchestrates services in order to automate business processes – was made available for customers to test last autumn.

According to Red Hat, JBoss Fuse Service Works sets the stage for faster and easier cloud, mobile and business process development projects by allowing IT to simplify service-enabling of existing and new applications and data.

In particular, it can offer a path to the firm’s cloud-based JBoss xPaaS services stack for OpenShift, which was unveiled last year, by providing a foundation for running integration in the cloud.

JBoss Fuse Service Works includes several Apache projects in order to deliver key capabilities, such as enterprise service bus (ESB) capabilities via Apache Camel, a messaging broker through Apache ActiveMQ, and a web services framework through Apache CXF.

It also includes life-cycle support for developing service-oriented applications via the SwitchYard component-based development framework, which works with Apache Camel to deliver a flexible integration runtime with comprehensive connectivity and transports, according to Red Hat.

The final piece of the puzzle is the Overlord project, which offers governance for life-cycle management of services and also supports business transaction monitoring to meet service-level agreements (SLAs).

Craig Muzilla, vice president for Red Hat’s Applications Platform Products Group, said that today’s business services require more than just service orchestration, needing integration, governance and monitoring.

“JBoss Fuse Service Works sets the stage for faster and easier cloud, mobile application and business process development and integration by providing a comprehensive offering that allows IT to simplify service-enabling of existing and new applications and data,” he said.
